'Rat Race' is not a misnomer

In this competitive world of ours, where opportunities are very few, some of us resort to underhand dealings so as to reach the topmost rung of the ladder of success.

This includes industrial espionage, under the table deals to get the contracts. Subversive activites like resorting to arson, kidnapping even murder.

However, the worst of the lot are the arms dealers who I feel are the most inhuman of the lot. King of all rats so as to speak.

Not any weapons but the acquisition of the latest weaponry is incumbent on all governments. Therefore, the latest weapons sell like hot cakes but the problem with the arms manufacturers is that they are stuck with the backlog of dead stock. How are they to recover their investment in the out-dated weapons but to sell them to the third world countries who cannot afford the more sophisticated weapons. How they go about doing this is by instigating one third world country to wage war with another. How they start the countries squabbling is by convincing one of the countries that some island or the other that is oil-rich has been usurped by the other .The value of oil in these islands would hardly be equivalent to the amount of time, money, energy & the most tragic of all the number of lives lost.

Therefore it is needless to say that the enthusiastic participants of the rat-race stand to gain very little because in order to succeed you have to become not only most unscrupulous & ruthless but the end result is that you cannot trust anyone & you lose peace of your mind. Your life becomes as unenviable as that of a rat albeit one that is surrounded by all latest amentities but suspicious of all around you!

So true! You literally hit the nail. It is sad beyond measure, but that is the order of the
day. Scruples, values, principles, society today seems to be bereft of these.
